Filmstrip Friday: Happy New Year!

So, last Friday was the first Friday that I have not done Filmstrip Friday.  My Mom had a stroke and the time I had with her was just too important.  It was also a rough day.  Jeff and I had had plans to go to the mountains for New Years for some time.  As you might imagine, that was the last thing I wanted to do after my Mom’s incident.  With MUCH persuasion from many of my family members Jeff and I went to the mountains for an evening of sub-zero temperatures, fireworks, goose and fondue!  I took all of this pictures just for my Mom.  (I thought I might share them with you too!)  Don’t forget to check me out on facebook!

Celebrate Life!

I shot this family session the day after Christmas in Keystone.  Taylor contacted me to take pictures of her family, consisting of nine adults.  The purpose of the session was to capture their family with their Grandfather who is 93 years old.  Upon hearing this, I was instantly excited and honored to be able to capture such a special family.  I decided to incorporate some balloons in an effort to loosen 9 adults up and to signify a celebration.  Even though it was not someone’s birthday, to have a Grandfather in your life, much less one that is 93, is reason to celebrate.  Celebrate life!  I also found it very touching that it was the grandchildren that made the effort to capture their family.

It is so important to be aware of the fragility of life.  Anything can change in an instant.  I know this especially well because my mom had a stroke on Thursday.  Thankfully she seems to be recovering faster than expected, but there is still a long road ahead to recovery.  Looking through these pictures, I suddenly found myself feeling guilty that I do not have nice pictures honoring my family.  There is always some excuse why not to have professional pictures, whether it be money, or wanting to loose weight, or my excuse…I am not photogenic.  All of these self-justifications are meaningless when you are sitting in an ICU room and the moment is gone.  So, I encourage everyone to make the effort to capture who is important to them, because you never know when they might be gone.
