A Hawaiian Honeymoon
Jeff and I just returned from our real honeymoon almost a month ago. By real, I mean more than four days and out of the state. (You can see the first one that was four days and in state here.) We went to Oahu, Hawaii. Hawaii is one of those places that you hear SO much about, and everything that you hear is simply how fabulous it is. I wasn’t that stoked on Hawaii, don’t get me wrong, I was excited to go, but I was mostly just excited for a vacation! A time to unplug and really NOT work. If you know me well, you know how hard and rare that really is. Plus, like I just mentioned, you hear such grandiose things about Hawaii, you don’t want to go into it with really high expectations and then be let down. Well, I was not let down, not in the least. Oahu was all that I had hoped it would be and more! We stayed in Kailua and pretty much avoided Honolulu and Waikiki for the most part, but traveled ALL over the island and up and down the coast over and over again. We were both pretty busy leading up to the trip, so we had little to no plans once we got there. It ended up being really great, because we could drive around and see all that there is to see and pull off for anything that grabbed our attention, which was pretty much everything! We enjoyed many of the beautiful Botanical Gardens that are all throughout the island. Another neat thing about the island is that the flora and fauna is pretty diverse from the east to the west, so we got to experience some wonderful tropical as well as dessert like places. Not to mention the mountains are pretty awe inspiring and magnificent and the ocean surrounds you so you have the best of both worlds, at least in my book
It was nice just to be around water, since we are pretty land-locked in Colorado. We definitely spent our fair share of time just watching the ebb and flow of the waves. And of course throughout the stay we also had lots of good food, mostly comprised of fresh fruit and lots of corn!
Once we landed I pretty much abandoned my camera, even though I lugged it all the way there. Instead I decided to capture our trip all through Instagram, which is pretty much my number one addiction. I have decided that this is my preferred method of documenting trips because of the ability to geo-tag. Not only was I able to take some great pictures, and instantly edit them, but also document all the places we went to at the same time. Definitely more on top of it that I would have been otherwise. Also, I can automatically post to any social media sight that I want, so friends and family can be in the know, which is nice when you are trying to avoid the phone
I do think some people started to hate me though, constantly posting all the pictures of paradise, oh well. I have also created a stream of all my instagram photos here, for those that don’t have instagram. And now I can make a little book with Blurb that will pull the photos from my stream! Super easy and super cute!
Enjoy all the beauty that is Oahu!

Great Sand Dunes National Park ::: Colorado Photographer
I am so happy to finally be done with these pictures and sharing them with the world. This trip to the Great National Sand Dunes is probably the most amazing adventure I have ever taken. My idea of fun doesn’t usually mean waking up at 2 AM, but I think that the pictures show that it was well worth it. I am thankful that Jeff pushed for us to start our drive at 2 AM so that we arrive at the Dunes right after sunrise. The boys also had an amazing time and it was a joy to see them do their thing in the sand. The adventure continued on to a very grueling hike, thus I did not get any pictures from that. All this is to say it was an amazing day and I can’t wait to go back.

Honeymoon Part I ::: Colorado Photographer
As I lay here awake at 5 AM in Japan (which is pretty late for once), I wish for the simplicity that is camping. Waking up with the sun, no notion of time, fresh mountain smells and of course quality time spent with my boys. I am happy to finally have some time to edit these photos and at least revel in the memories. I have been experimenting with soft and out of focus frames for a couple of months now, but finally have some that I feel are ready to share.
